Equality in access and control of resources relating to land and finance is key in achieving adequate housing. The Promoting Equality and Capacity Development in Housing CooperativesProject (PECH-HC) is a We Effect 5 years project running from 2018 to 2021. The project will focus on achieving equality first by empowering women and young people to access their rights to land and adequate housing. UHOCU will focus on empowering women and young people by improving their income levels through Income Generating Activities and investments as well as enhancing their capacity to design, plan and build their own houses.
Through PECH-HC, Housing cooperatives will enhance women and young people’s participation by empowering them in leadership skills, project management as well as ensuring equal representation on leadership committees. The project intends to include the poor rural communities to develop housing options that utilize local materials and fit within their in-come levels. Cooperative housing model is ideal in reducing constructions costs while at the same time providing decent housing for the members through self-help and joint mobilization of building materials, labour and expertise. With this new project UHOCU`s area of operation has increased from 5 to 9districts. These include but not limited to; Kampala, Mukono, Buikwe, Mbale, Tororo, Gulu, Bundibugyo, Luwero and Wakiso. The project is funded by We Effect
